Jaén, the main producer of olive oil in Spain, stands out as the jewel of the national olive grove. Andalusia accounts for 80% of total olive oil production, and Jaén is the autonomous region's leader with 37%, followed by Castilla La Mancha (8%) and Extremadura (4%). This territory, together with six Andalusian provinces, aspires to be recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site under the denomination of Cultural Landscape of the Olive Grove and World Heritage of Humanity.
In 2024, five cooperatives and three olive oil mills from Jaén will be distinguished with the prestigious "Jaén Selección" label of the Provincial Council, standing out for their quality and participation in promotional activities that represent the best of Jaén olive oil. This annual recognition, promoted by the Diputación de Jaén and announced by Jaén, seeks to raise the value of extra virgin olive oil, promote excellence and strengthen the international position of Jaén, which contributes more than 20% of the world's olive oil production.
Jaén Selección 2024: Recognising Quality
The "Jaén Selección" seal highlights the quality and uniqueness of the best extra virgin olive oils from Jaén, selected by a jury of fifty professionals in an annual tasting-competition. This annual distinction highlights the excellence in flavour, aroma and quality, consolidating Jaén's reputation as a world leader in the production of extra virgin olive oil.
In the 2024 edition, eight exceptional extra virgin olive oils from the province of Jaén have been awarded the Jaén Selección label. These oils were selected from among the 50 participants in the tasting-competition - 42 conventional and 8 organic - by 42 companies located in 32 municipalities in the province. Five cooperatives and three olive oil mills from Jaén will proudly wear this label on their bottles.

Oro Bailén Picual, Olibaeza Patrimonio Dorado Picual, Puerta de las Villas Edición Especial Picual, Esencial Olive Picual, Puerta del Parque, Tierras de Canena, Jabalcuz Premium Picual and the organic Melgarejo are the brands selected to carry the "Jaén Selección" label over the next year.
These eight jewels of the Jaén olive grove, from five cooperatives and three mills in seven municipalities, have been selected from a total of 50 participants in the tasting-competition, standing out both for their quality and their contribution to the sector.
